How Astrology works?

“Astrology is a language. If you understand this language, the sky speaks to you.”

When you don’t follow your nature there is a hole in the universe where you were supposed to be.

Dane Rudhyar

To understand correctly the words alchemy and astrology, it is necessary to understand and realize the intimate relationship and identity of the Macrocosm and the Microcosm, and their mutual interaction. All powers of the universe are potentially contained in man and his physical body, and all his organs are nothing else but the products and representatives of the powers of Nature.

The operative principle behind astrology is based upon a connection existing between the life patterns of human beings (or any other organic wholes) and the dynamic pattern of relationship existing within the solar system and symbolized by the cyclic patterns of the planets we see in the sky. The question here is more than merely recognizing the existence of such a connection; we must attempt to understand the nature of the relationship.

The theory of planetary influence holds that the Sun, Moon, and planets exert some sort of external influence or force upon human beings and everything else in the solar system less grand than themselves. It is believed that the celestial bodies make things happen and cause people to feel and react in a certain manner, which may be predicted by the application of the astrological technique. This theory sees no possible escape from the all-powerful planetary forces and believes that through astrology men and women may be better equipped to survive—”forewarned is forearmed.”

People like to use effect of the Moon on level of water it makes rising, making high and low tide, as well as in humans. When moon becomes full, surgents, for instance, don’t operate, because water is higher and wilder in us, so loosing blood is difficult to stop. It influences our moods, tolerance threshold, and even scientific procedures like surgery. Therefore, if influence of so small planetary body is so obvious, how strong must be influences of other planets, effects that are not so visible? But I personally, look differently on the magic of astrology.

When Macrocosmos and Microcosmos mirroring itself, projections unfolding out of time, it gives us a glimpse to that connection between human psyche and life and Cosmos itself. In Astrology it is called – Astrology chart.

The synchronistic principle was formulated by Carl Gustav Jung as an explanation for apparently causally unconnected, though simultaneous, events and psychological phenomena and the functional operation of the I Ching and astrology. It contends that parallel phenomena may be connected by time rather than by cause. As Jung states in the Appendix of The Secret of the Golden Flower, astrological deductions “are not due to the effects of the constellations, but to our hypothetical time-characters. In other words, whatever is born or done at this moment, has the qualities of this moment.” Both man and the solar system are in some way a part of the same system, and there are no rigid or absolute separations existing between the two.

It can be easily understood if we take in consideration that only realm people can experience is not just physical, but psychological too (there isn’t anything that we can conceive without doing it through our quite limited psyche). All universe that our mind is capable of knowing is called Psychoid: neither psychological nor physical, but similar to and transcending both. Archetypes have a psychoid or “quasi psychic” quality and are therefore beyond consciousness.

I see the synchronistic principle (in its most inclusive meaning) as the primary operative principle of astrology, as an aspect of structuring and formative power, the power that defines the nature of all things.

Natal chart, future prediction chart, past lives chart, they are all coming from collective unconscious, according to dr. Jung, where all knowledge and experience of the human race is stored. Only way to communicate with this Out-of-time treasury is through symbols. And astrology is primarily that – the perfect system of symbols. Through that system we receive messages from all-knowledgable, out of time Cosmos. Sometimes, for instance, it seems that sun-moon square (tension between mother and father, or absence of one) fated us to repeat conflict situation from primary family in all our relationships throughout our lives. Or we make a chart that predicts a future and that is REALLY as it gets (if you have knowledge and talent for interpretation of the prediction charts). But that is all illusion. Coming from Out-of-time, astrology chart doesn’t restrict our repertoire of behaviour or fates us to particular personality of ours or destiny we don’t have control over – it is just a message coming from Out-of-time knowledge base, where is stored all that has happened, is happening and will happen. It show us a way, but we are still here to make ourselves better with a help of astrology and that way, change the curse to repeat, for instance, moon-sun square influence in our relationships making that way our lives fulfilled with successful relationship in spite of the square: it just shows us what we can change in our personality.

Grow out of your chart is a goal!

We are born at a given moment in a given place and like vintage years of wine we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything else. – C.G.Jung

The important point is that the horoscope is true only in the time sense, not astronomically. It is independent of the stars. We see that menstruation has a moon period, yet it does not coincide with the phases of the moon; otherwise all women would menstruate at the same time, and they don’t. It simply means that there is a moon-law in every woman and likewise the laws of the stars in every human being but not in the relation of cause and effect. – C.G. Jung

To get to know ourselves, to heal our Souls, and all through rediscovery and connection with the archetypal world, Jung believed, that we interact with this world by understanding and using symbols. According to dr.Carl Jung, our Soul speaks to us in this language of images that represent archetypes through dreams and through archetypal symbols. Astrological planets are archetypal symbols, and our birth charts are a unique “map of our Soul” (as the name of one of his books), that can illuminate the relationship between our conscious and unconscious mind.

By understanding the symbols in our unconscious through dreams or through the planetary archetypes in our birthchart, we can take steps to break free of our more compulsive, repetitive, or “default” patterns of behavior. Astrologers believe that individual unconscious patterns are left as an “imprint” that can be read on the birth chart—as Jung said: “The individual disposition is already a factor in childhood; it is innate, and not acquired in the course of a life.” Astrologers believe this disposition is reflected in the planetary symbols that synchronize the moment of your birth with the heavens above. My teacher, Alice Howell, used to remind us that: “To think symbolically is a key to wisdom.”
